The 2011 Children's Ride
This year we are adding a Children's Ride, which seems particularly appropriate since the money we are raising will be used to provide clean water to primary schools.

Details
  • The children's ride will start at 9:30 am on May 21, at the same location as the adult ride,

               Battelle Darby Creek Metro Park.

  • The ride will be on the packed gravel path that lies entirely within Battelle Darby Creek Metro

Park, so there will be no car traffic to contend with. They will need to cross a major road in

each direction, but we will have adults as crossing guards.

  • The route is 9 miles, but the path is "out-and-back" so kids can turn around any time (with

a parent or guardian) and return to the start if 9 miles is too long.

  • The route will pass by the buffalo that have been recently brought to the park, and if we have

enough children sign-up, a park ranger will provide an informational talk about them.

  • Snacks and drinks will be provided.
  • Adult supervision will be provided, but parents are encouraged to ride too, particularly if their

child might want to ride less than the 9 miles.

  • There is no fundraising minimum for the children's ride, but we encourage the kids to find a way

to donate some money to help us provide clean water to children in Kenya.  A lemonade stand

perhaps?  Extra chores around the house?  Asking friends and family to sponsor them, maybe

$1 for each mile they ride?

  • Helmets are required and a parent or guardian will have to sign a release form at the registration

table on the day of the event.

For planning purposes, please let us know if you have a child (or children) who will be joining us:
